The huge success of the Red Roses, England’s World Cup winning team, gripped Tottonians on the day of the Final at Twickenham as 16 budding young players took part in a Girls Activity Day at Water Lane.

Superbly organised by the club’s Girls Rugby Lead, Lydia Barber, the youngsters, aged between four and 11, took part and learned passing skills, body positions and tackling technique amongst other key rugby actions as well as making arts, crafts and face painting before watching England’s stars lift the World Cup with a thrilling victory over Canada.

With support from Mattel, in association with England Red Roses sponsors Barbie, the goody bags went down a treat and it was the day was greeted with smiles, laughs and lots of fun … and even more rugby played on the pitch before, during and after the main event.

One parent said, “we had an amazing time.  Thank you so much to everyone who laid on such a great day!”, while another contacted the club to say “the girls really enjoyed it and made new friends too.  The coaches made it fun learning about the game and its made them even more keen to play.”

It was a joy to see and Lydia was thrilled with the attendance and the way the girls embraced all of the activities.  “The girls really threw themselves into all of the rugby skills activities, which was brilliant to see.

“It was great fun and I want to thank everyone who came and took part as well as all of the helpers, including lots of the previous ‘Totties’ who helped out with the crafts, food and bar, the Under 18s team who joined in and helped the youngsters (and enjoyed the Barbie goody bags too!!) and a huge thank you to Bucky for helping me coach.”

Women’s Rugby fever had gripped the nation – and it came to Tottonians in a big way too.

Here is a selection of Kevin Marchant’s pictures from the day.  Thank you so much to everyone who took part and to Lydia and her band of helpers for putting on such a great day out.
