UNDER 13s – v Romsey (home – 21 September)
RESULT: Tottonians 7 tries, Romsey 6 tries
PLAYER of the MATCH: Adley Searle
The under 13s had their first outing of the season and first taste of junior rugby in a competitive affair against Romsey. The game started with big collisions and expansive rugby which continued for the full 50 minutes.
Every Tottonian gave it everything to the very end in an entertaining fixture which has set the tone going forward. We look forward to the return fixture in November!
UNDER 16s – v Romsey (away – 5 October)
RESULT: Romsey 21 Tottonians 24
It was a nail-biting encounter at Romsey today as our Tottonians U16s delivered a display of skill, determination, and composure to claim a 24-21 victory against a strong Romsey side.
Tottonians started the match in sensational fashion. Our forwards dominated the breakdown and our backs moved the ball with pace and precision. Kai and George were on fire, crossing the line for three first-half tries, giving Tottonians a commanding 17-0 lead at the break.
Romsey came out with renewed energy in the second half, mounting a spirited comeback that saw them take the lead 21-17 with only minutes remaining. But Tottonians showed their mettle and a late fourth try, followed by a successful conversion, sealed the 24-21 win in the dying moments.
UNDER 15s – v Locks Heath Pumas (away – 5 October)
RESULT: Locks Heath Pumas 52 “Taltonians” 12
Report from James Stubbington
Today’s game saw a combined team of Alton and Tottonians (Taltonians) facing Locks Heath Pumas away from home.
The first half, Locks Heath Pumas demonstrated their strong connection between each player scoring four tries and converting each kick with no response from Taltonians, even with the great effort from the boys playing in black, white and green sponsored by Complete Bathrooms.
Despite the score, Taltonians showed good resilience applying greater pressure at the break down and committing to tackles. Two tries scored by Taltonians with one converted, four more tries for the home side.
Both sides, showed great skill and effort to make a competitive game ending 52-12, with Pumas taking the victory at home.
Thank you to our hosts today for a fantastic game of rugby played in the great spirit.
UNDER 11s at NEW MILTON FESTIVAL
Totts Under 11s travelled to the New Milton Festival for their first competitive rugby of the season. It was, as lead coach Bucky put it, “a tournament of two halves”, but one that ended on a real high as the team finished strongly in their final two matches.
The opening match saw Totts face a well drilled Wimborne side who dominated possession, scoring a couple of tries in each half. Totts did grow into the game, however, and were rewarded when Matthew showed his trademark dancing feet to score the team’s first try of the festival.
Next up were Bournemouth, who impressed with their organisation at the breakdown. Despite some brave tackling from Danny and determined defensive work across the team, Totts found it difficult to gain possession and didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet.
New Milton, arguably the form side of the day so far, were next. There was a real shift in the teams play, the began to show great hunger to win the ball, protect it at the ruck, and apply pressure in defence. Tries from Abdul, Fin, Hugo (2), and Millie saw Totts narrowly edge the game and get back to some of the rugby they were playing at the end of last season.
Last up was Fordingbridge, and we finished on a real high, dominating the breakdown and possession. Another try for Matthew, two for Hugo, and a brilliant solo effort from William P finished the tournament off in style, leaving smiles on everyone’s faces.
Player of the day was a tightly fought contest. It was given to Edee who grew into the tournament, assuming the position of scrumhalf, leading at the breakdown and showing great vision with ball in hand. There were notable mentions for Abdul, playing his first ever competitive rugby, for running hard with ball in hand and throwing himself into every tackle. Danny continued to defend like a man possessed, stopping anything that came into his channel and throwing himself into rucks.
A great day was had by all and there was lots to take forwards into the season. Plenty was learned, confidence grew with each match, and most importantly, they all had fun.
