COLTS ON THE BRINK OF SHIELD TITLE AFTER WINCH WIN

Tottonians Colts are just two points away from clinching the Hampshire Colts League Shield Division title following a decisive 24-7 victory over Winchester 2nd XV at North Walls.

 

With the division a three way tussle at the top between Tottonians, Havant 2s and Winchester 2s, victory in this game was paramount and it was superbly delivered with a solid performance on a cool, dank afternoon in the county capital.

 

A first half try from hooker Hugh Morris put the visitors ahead, safely converted by the trusty boot of Sid Tipp who added a penalty before the break after Winchester had levelled the scores with a deserved try following a period of sustained pressure on the Totts line.

 

But the second half was almost exclusively Tottonians’ and tries from Ethan Odell and a clinching score in the closing minutes from lock Charlie Presland – Tipp adding both conversions – took the talented young Totts group to within a couple of points of the Shield Division silverware with a game against USP Heathens at Water Lane next weekend.
