WINNING RUN ENDS WITH WIMBORNE LOSS

Totts were in the ascendance for the first 15 minutes and creates a number of scoring chances but good defence from the visitors held them at bay. Totts were then awarded a penalty 20 metres out which was converted by Tom Tully for 3-0.
Wimborne came back with a vengeance from the restart and attacked Totts’ line with two penalties and a number of pick and goes saw the number eight go over out with for an unconverted try. 3-5
From the kick off, the visitors gained possession but were turned over by Totts, however, an attempted touch line kick was charged down and the ball was fed along the Wimborne back line for the winger to score another unconverted try in the corner. 3-10.
Shortly after the restart, a knock-on from Totts was fielded by the opposition fly-half and he chipped over Totts’ backs who were up in attack. Wimborne were first to the ball to gather and raced in under the sticks from the halfway line for a converted score for 3-17 with ten minutes of the half left.
Totts came back with a try before half-time though when Tully made a break down the visitors 22 and fed the ball inside to Callum Turvey who was brought down just short of the line. Josh Andrews was on hand to pick up and crash over to cut the arrears to 8-17 which is remained at the break.
As the second half restarted, Leo Tongue jumped to receive the ball but was fouled in the air. The resulting penalty was kicked to touch and after a successful catch and drive, a series of pick and goes got Totts closer to the line before Scott Rogers collected and drove over to score under the posts to slice the visitors lead to just four.
Totts attacked from the restart again and good carries by Josh Andrews and Tully got the home side into the opposition 22 where Wimborne infringed once more. Tully hit the penalty and the lead was down to just one.
But, halfway through the half, Tully was lost to a yellow card from a deliberate knock on and, after a home line out on half way, Totts set up a ruck. An attempted pass out wide was intercepted by Wimborne who sped unopposed under the sticks for their bonus point score, pushing them 16-27 up following an earlier penalty with just 15 minutes to play.
Totts fought back and Tongue’s run got them into the visitors’ 22. Another series of pick and goes saw Rogers collect his second of the afternoon and Tully’s successful conversion saw the score 23-27 with six minutes left on the clock.
Try as they might, Totts battled to score the bonus point and winning try but Wimborne defended well to hold on for the win – a rare home defeat for Tottonians.
A close fought encounter between two very even sides with the home side left to rue giving away a couple of cheap scores.
