UNDER 13s – v Ellingham & Ringwood (away – 11 January)
RESULT: Tottonians 12 Ellingham & Ringwood 0
PLAYER of the MATCH: Euan
Report from Mike Searle

Totts headed down to E&R following the festive break and what a day we were treated too; wind, rain, cold and a cracking game of rugby.

30+ lads putting in every bit of effort on a bitter day in atrocious conditions and amazing hospitality from our hosts.

Brave defence, strong carries and great interplay on a challenging day led to Totts eventually pulling away 12-0 winners.

The tries were shared about the team but special mention to Marley, who plucked the ball out the air and used his footwork, power and determination to force his way over the line.

Hamish was once again a rock at the back and grabbed a couple of tries but the highlight was a try saving tackle on one wing only to bounce back up and sprint across the pitch to do it again on the other wing.

All the lads deserve praise for sticking to it on a cold day where we were trying anything to keep them warm, as the video shows, but our man of the match went to Euan who stepped up superbly to the fly half roll and led the team fantastically.

UNDER 15s – v Gosport & Fareham (home – 11 January)
RESULT: Taltonians 22 Gosport & Fareham 19
Cup Quarter-Final match report by Zak Simes

Taltonians U15s came into their quarter final clash with Gosport & Fareham full of hunger and intent, eager to show what they were capable of after a relaxing Christmas break.

With a few key players unavailable, several boys stepped up and played out of position. Rather than hindering the side, this proved to be a positive, as Taltonians’ defensive pressure was outstanding throughout. Relentless tackling and smart organisation forced errors from Gosport & Fareham, allowing Taltonians to capitalise on loose play.

The opening try came after a series of powerful runs put the opposition on the back foot, creating space for Ollie to touch down. He calmly converted his own try to give Taltonians early momentum.

The pressure continued and was rewarded again with a superbly executed lineout move. Strong carrying and determination from Peter saw him power over in the corner for Taltonians’ second try.

Taltonians extended their lead soon after when they were awarded a penalty directly in front of the posts. Ollie stepped up and slotted it with ease, keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Just before half time, Gosport & Fareham responded with a clever lineout move of their own, catching the Taltonians defence off guard and crossing the line to keep the contest finely balanced going into the break.

The second half saw Gosport & Fareham raise their intensity, showing real doggedness and resilience as they fought back into the contest. However, Taltonians struck decisively when Tom spotted a gap and accelerated through from 40 metres out to score a brilliant try. Seb added the conversion to stretch the lead.

Despite a strong late push from Gosport & Fareham, Taltonians held firm defensively to see out the match and secure a hard-fought victory.

A determined team performance and a deserved place in the next round.

UNDER 13s – v Basingstoke (home – 14 December)
RESULT: Tottonians 50 Basingstoke 15
Bowl First Round
PLAYER of the MATCH: Lucas
Report from Mike Searle

The Under 13s played Basingstoke in the Bowl first round yesterday, after being knocked out of the cup on ‘first try’ following a draw with Fordingbridge in October.

The boys warmed up like they were already on their Christmas break but once the whistle went it was all business; with excellent teamwork both sides of the ball leading to a 50-15 win.

The tries were shared around with Cai, Hayden, Hamish, Izzy and George all getting on the score sheet.

It’s hard to single out any particular player but our Man of the Match went to Lucas who was a warrior in defence and at ruck time.

Our next round will be against Farnborough at home on 18th January and after yesterdays game, we can’t wait.
